I’m a prisoner at HMP Elmley and first came into contact with CXK when I met with a careers adviser for a careers information, advice and guidance session. My adviser talked to me about the work available and also advised me on education courses and construction courses.
I completed a PLP (Personal Learning Plan) with my adviser and they supported me with my PET application. I have completed various courses during my time in prison, including a Level 2 Peer Mentoring Qualification, which has been really important in my journey.
I have worked with CXK at several prisons. As a result of passing my Level 2 Peer Mentoring qualification, I currently work for CXK as a Peer Mentor at Elmley. My prospects have definitely improved, and I now have a clearer idea of where I’m heading and how to get there.
Working with CXK helped me to realise that there are opportunities in prison to help you with employment on release.
“I came to prison in December 2021 with no qualifications, and I am leaving prison with Level 2s in English, Maths, and Peer Mentoring. I am convinced that this will give me better job opportunities on release.”
I now encourage new prisoners to work with CXK every day, advising them that if they are determined to change their lives, CXK can 100% help them focus on their education and qualification needs.
My ultimate aim is to work for a large construction company and hopefully become a Project Manager.
