Fiona's Story

Fiona’s daughter Lily took part in the NCS programme in Autumn 2015 after her daughter told her all about National Citizen Service. Fiona saw this as an amazing opportunity to improve Lily’s communication skills, confidence in exploring outside activities and meeting new people.

Lily decided to take part in the programme because her school was encouraging and her friends were doing it, she wanted to enhance her UCAS application and build on her existing skills and abilities.

Since graduating, Fiona has noticed that Lily is now a lot more likely to explore other charities she can help and hopes to continue visiting the care home she was working with on her social action project. Fiona would absolutely recommend the National Citizen Service Programme to any parents who have children thinking of taking part.

When asked to describe NCS in 5 words she said “Independence, friends, organisational skills, open minded”.
