Hayley's Story

Before joining the Prince’s Trust Team programme, 19-year-old Hayley was on Job Seekers Allowance and living with her foster Mum, having put herself in to care at the age of 15.

She had applied for a range of jobs but had not been successful in her applications.

Hayley was referred to the Prince's Trust Team programme by her local Job Centre Plus. Hayley didn’t really know what to expect from the Team programme but thought it would help her with her job search and confidence, so decided to give it a go.

Hayley progressed hugely in confidence, self-awareness, maturity and emotional stamina whilst on the programme. She took the lead and led the rest of the team by example in many activities and tasks.

As part of the programme, Hayley secured a work placement with an organisation that provides educational assistance to children and young people in care. Hayley excelled during her work placement - the staff were full of praise for her and she received a glowing reference.

With support from the Team Programme staff, Hayley successful applied for an apprenticeship with the organisation that provided her work placement.

During her time on the programme, Hayley also decided that she was ready to move out and live independently. CXK staff supported Hayley through her local Council's housing process and she successfully bidded for a flat, which she moved into just before starting her apprenticeship.

Hayley says: "I’ve gained so much confidence and got my life sorted out. It’s a wicked course."
