Lauren heard about the National Citizen Service programme in a school assembly and took part in the Autumn 2015 NCS programme, for Lauren the main inspirations for joining the NCS programme vwas to increase CAS hours, bump up her CV and make new friends for life.
The main skills Lauren has learned from her experience on the programme were gardening, communication, self confidence and team work all of which she feels will help her in the future.
The residential was Lauren’s favourite part of the NCS programme was the residential where she was able to take part in exciting new activities, despite being faced with the challenge of completing an obstacle course with a broken finger.
Laurens team decided to build their social action project around gardening in a local care home, the team wanted to help the elderly and seeing the happiness of these people once the project was complete gave Lauren an amazing sense of achievement.
When asked what advice she would give to someone considering the programme she said: “have fun, make friends and just believe that you can do it”.
