CXK Golf Day Raises Money for Kickstart Fund

Friday 22nd April 2016

Golfers from a variety of organisations and backgrounds came together on 22nd April to support CXK’s first charity golf day at Chart Hills Golf Club.

Ben Smith, a Talent Match beneficiary, at Chart HillsOne of the players, Ben Smith, is a current beneficiary of CXK’s Talent Match programme, a scheme which offers one-to-one mentoring support to help people back into sustainable employment. Ben, who one day hopes to be a professional golfer, came to the attention of CXK after sofa-surfing in the Medway towns and being unsure how to take the next step.  Thanks to the Talent Match programme, Ben has for the last six months been in employment and is working towards his apprenticeship qualification.

Talking about his experience, Ben said “without CXK I don’t know what I would be doing now.  Tony, my mentor, has helped and supported me every step of the way and encouraged me to believe in myself. Whilst I know that my dream of being a professional golfer is an ambitious one, I also know that you need to set your sights high to achieve your goals. Joining Talent Match, and becoming involved with CXK, has helped me see that.”

In total, twelve teams took part and raised over £2,000 for the CXK Kickstart Fund. This fund, which born from a staff initiative, is designed as a hardship fund to help young people progress. This could be a new suit for an interview, equipment for a college course or the cost of transport.  This money will help CXK support a number of young people, as they look to maximise their own potential.

Commenting on the event, Matthew Roberts – Chief Executive of CXK – said “our thanks goes to everyone who participated today, including the groundsmen of Chart Hills who prepared the course for us. The money that has been donated today will have a significant impact on the lives of some of the young people we work with, on programmes such as the Prince’s Trust Team programme or our own Elevate programme, and help us to continue to support those who are most in need. We look forward to holding many more such events in the future.”
