Darran Challis: UK Invictus Games 2016 Competitor

Friday 8th April 2016

Darran Challis with Prince HarryAfter his success as part of the elite team who completed the Arch to Arc Challenge, on behalf of Help for Heroes, last September, Darran Challis - a CXK Prince's Trust Leader - has been selected to be part of the UK team for the 2016 Invictus Games.  These will take place in May 2016 in Orlando, Florida.

The first Invictus Games (Invictus means ‘unconquered’) took place in 2014 in London.  The Games were set up by Prince Harry following a trip to the US Warrir Games in 2013.  All of the competitors are either current or veteran Service personnel who have been wounded or injured whilst serving their country.  They have, through the use of sport, continued to find the motivation to move on and continue to challenge themselves.

Fifteen countries will be competing in the 2016 Games, with ten separate sporting events that 500 competitors will take part in.  In total over 180 wounded, injured or sick personnel tried out for one of the 110 places in the UK team, with the selection process based on the benefit the Invictus Games will give an individual as part of their recovery, combined with performance and commitment to training.

Our congratulations to Darran and all other athletes who’re part of the 2016 Games.
