Elevate Programme Celebrates First Birthday

Friday 26th February 2016

Over the last year, our ‘Elevate’ programme has been helping local young people to learn the skills and gain the confidence they need to get ahead in life and work. In this time, the course has seen 72 young people to make positive changes for their futures.

The Elevate Programme is a course designed to help young people become the person employers want to employ. CXK designed the programme based on what employers in Kent said they needed from young people applying for jobs (based on a survey completed in January 2015 during the initial programme set up). The programme is for young people aged 16-19 who are not in employment, education or training.

Thanks to the success of this unique programme, these inspiring young people have gone on to progress into a range of different sectors including, engineering, catering, health and beauty, horticulture, business and animal care.

Robert Waite from Gravesend said: “I was having no luck finding work and so my participation contract worker told me about CXKs Elevate programme.

I thought the programme was great, my advisers were always happy to give advice when needed and even when I almost gave up, they were on hand to keep me on track. Thanks to the Elevate programme I now have 3 more qualifications, have completed a work experience placement have even been offered the chance to come back and volunteer.

Without doing the Elevate programme, I would have no work experience and would be feeling really de motivated because I would be nowhere closer to getting a job. I now have a clearer direction in life and having learnt how to deal with customers, I now know that I would like to work in retail or a warehouse.

I am glad I contacted CXK because I now have a lot more confidence, at the start of the programme I was shy and quiet and now I’m really talkative. I would tell anyone thinking about starting the programme to do it, it will help you out and give you experience.”

Senior Team Leader of the Elevate Lizzie Gregory: “Being able to help young people from so many different backgrounds, and watching their progression from day 1 to completion is truly inspiring. Over the last year I have seen the programme grow across the locality and I am excited to see what the future holds for Elevate.”
