Since its launch in May 2024, CXK’s Canterbury Pathways programme has engaged more than 250 residents across the Canterbury district, providing essential support to those looking to enhance their skills and access valuable training opportunities. The programme focuses on improving employability through skills development, helping residents gain the qualifications and confidence needed to advance their career prospects or explore new professional pathways.
Funded by the United Kingdom Shared Prosperity Fund and delivered in partnership with Canterbury City Council, the Canterbury Pathways (to Skills) programme equips district residents with a broad range of skills through personalised guidance, life skills training, and access to education. By offering one-to-one support, group workshops, and courses in key areas such as CV building, interview techniques, and job hunting strategies, participants are empowered to take control of their personal and professional growth.
Lizzie Gregory, CXK Area Manager for Targeted Support, highlighted the programme’s achievements: “The need for this initiative has never been more apparent, with Canterbury facing higher levels of economic inactivity than regional and national averages. Through Canterbury Pathways, we are addressing this challenge by equipping residents with vital skills and training that will improve their employability and open doors to new opportunities. We are proud of the progress we’ve made so far – supporting over 250 people – and we are committed to continuing to help even more individuals gain the qualifications and confidence they need.”
The programme is open to all residents in the Canterbury district and offers a wide range of learning opportunities in collaboration with EKC Training and other local agencies. Residents can access courses in essential subjects such as maths and English, as well as industry-specific training in sectors like retail, hospitality, construction trades, childcare, and healthcare.
