Ollie is 19 and from Minster on the Isle of Sheppey. He was looking for work but not really sure of what he wanted to do. A member of CXK staff called him and told him about the Prince’s Trust Team programme. Ollie was also volunteering at a local IT service/internet café whilst figuring out what his skills were and what he wanted to do. He decided to take a chance and sign up for the Team programme.
The programme helped Ollie realise he was far more capable and had a much bigger skill set than he'd thought. Whilst on the programme, Ollie learnt to work with a variety of different people, he took on leadership responsibilities and proved his stamina and determination with regard to his work ethic and job search.
Ollie’s confidence levels really improved whilst on work placement at a local MPs constituency office and he took the opportunity of an interview at a local hospital, which was presented to him after his successful mock interview during the Career Planning week of the programme.
Ollie was successful in being offered the role at the hospital and, by the end of the course, was in the difficult (but previously unheard of) situation of being able to choose between two job offers – he chose the hospital position.
Ollie’s Mum said: "You have done your best by him at every stage, and we are really grateful."
Ollie really appreciated the support of the CXK staff on the Team programme and is still in touch 6 months later, giving updates of his progress and remaining interested in the work of the Team programme.
Since leaving the programme, Ollie has been successful in gaining a position as Prince’s Trust Young Ambassador for the South East, after being encouraged by CXK staff to apply for the role.
Ollie deserves this prestigious position, and it is through his time on the Team programme that he learnt to believe in himself and take hold of opportunities presented to him.
