CXK delivers careers information, advice and guidance (IAG) services in ten prisons across Kent, Surrey and East Sussex; supporting prison residents with a structured pathway of education, work and training during their stay in custody.
A Personal Learning Plan (PLP) is produced for every resident of the prison, which identifies short, medium and long-term skills and targets for the resident to achieve. This plan is influenced by the individual’s career aspirations and the opportunities for work in their local establishment.
The PLP considers levels of attainment in English and maths, as well as taking into account any additional learning needs. All PLPs are reviewed and updated regularly including on transfer and/or release.
As part of the service, CXK recruits, coaches, trains and manages a group of IAG peer workers who work with a number of residents to complete their Personal Learning Plans. Our Peer Mentors are able to build vital skills in careers information, advice and guidance, and leadership, helping them and their mentees pave the way for successful reintegration into society.
