Key Information

At CXK, we’re dedicated to supporting individuals as they navigate life’s transitions, including those entering into new environments such as prison. Our Settling In Programme is designed to provide comprehensive support to help individuals adjust to the challenges of their new surroundings.

Directly responding to the Prisons Strategy White Paper 2021 objective of reducing suicide and self-harm, our programme takes a proactive approach to address the individual factors that prisoners bring into custody. These may include substance misuse, mental health needs, and intricate causes rooted in the prison environment.

Recognising the essential need for proactive approaches, the Settling In programme offers dedicated support to new prisoners, integrating them into prison life through high-quality emotional resilience training sessions. The guidance of peer mentors fortifies ongoing support, contributing to enhanced prisoner mental health and well-being while fostering a positive prison culture.

Our programme is delivered by Facilitators, all of whom have lived experience of the male prison environment. With first-hand experience, our facilitators bring a unique perspective and understanding to the support they provide.

Benefits

Our programme consists of a 2-hour workshop followed by ongoing support through follow-up visits. During the workshop, participants engage in interactive activities and discussions aimed at addressing concerns and providing practical strategies for coping with the challenges of the new environment.

We take a blended learning approach, combining classroom sessions, in-cell activities, and additional resources to ensure participants get the most out of the programme. Our goal is to make the workshop interactive and engaging, providing valuable tools and resources for navigating the new environment.
