I reached out to the National Careers Service when a friend recommended their help with updating my CV and finding a new job. In August, I had a meeting at their office in Eastbourne and registered for their free services for the next year.
During our chat, I shared my job struggles. I was currently stuck in an admin role, feeling seriously burned out and stressed. Even though I was employed, I really wanted a change. I love cycling, so I also discussed that I wanted any new job to be close enough for me to bike to.
The main challenge was getting my CV in shape. I handed over my old one to my National Careers Service adviser, and we worked together to create a fresh version, setting a date to finish it. They also pointed me to the NCS website to check out different job profiles, especially in admin and receptionist roles. It was eye-opening and really helped improve my CV.
Before I connected with the National Careers Service, I had found three potential jobs online. My adviser went through those listings with me, and agreed that one of them – a Customer Adviser role – looked perfect for me. We scheduled a job club session, where an advisor would help me with my application, and in the meantime we got my CV up to scratch.
At my job club appointment, my adviser supported me with my job application, and also conducted some mock interviews with me to help me get better prepared. It was so helpful and left me feeling more confident about future interviews.
And the result? I was invited for an interview and got the role! I couldn’t be more thankful to the National Careers Service team for their support – it played a huge part in landing me my new job.
