Lee’s Story

I’m a single father and was working for an agency doing temporary work, but I needed support finding a job that would employ me on PAYE and provide some more stability for me and my family. So, I contacted the National Careers Service for support.

I didn’t have the technology to write myself a CV, so I needed help doing that. My adviser was really helpful, creating me a brand new CV and helping me to look for full-time jobs as well as identifying some courses where I could get my Level 4 NVQ for the position of Telehandler, which would help to boost my job prospects.

I enrolled on the NVQ course which will keep me in employment for another 5 years without having to retrain. Thanks to this and the other advice I received, I now have a new job as a Telehandler.

My session with the National Careers Service adviser gave me the motivation to take on the NVQ course and to find the job I’m now in today. The course and new job have given me security. Before, I was with an agency doing temporary work and never knew where I would be working each week. I wanted to get a secure job before my son started secondary school, and with the support of the National Careers Service I’ve now achieved that.
