Ian’s Story

In 2019, I took a significant step in my life by resigning from my job. After a few years of being unemployed, I decided it was time to re-enter the workforce.

In my quest to find a job, I sought assistance from the National Careers Service. One of the immediate challenges I faced was the sorry state of my CV. It had been left dormant for quite some time, and I was aware that it needed a significant overhaul. My dedicated careers adviser, Jane, with her meticulous attention to detail and professionalism, played a critical role in reviving my CV. I cannot thank her enough for her support in this regard. She not only breathed new life into my CV but also opened up exciting avenues for personal growth.

With Jane’s guidance, I was introduced to various online courses that I could take to enhance my skills and qualifications. While I intended to explore these courses once I had settled into my new job, they represented a world of opportunities that I had been unaware of.

Following the revision of my CV and the newfound enthusiasm that Jane had instilled in me, I began receiving numerous interview offers and job opportunities. This week, I found myself inundated with possibilities, but ultimately, I decided to accept an offer of employment with Howdens. I was thrilled to accept the role of a territory sales executive, which came with a competitive salary and a host of exciting incentives.

On a personal note, I was deeply appreciative of the time I spent working with Jane. Her professionalism was matched only by her kindness and thoughtfulness. Her warm and friendly approach made the entire experience enjoyable and allowed me to relax, even when discussing matters as crucial as my career and job prospects. Not only did she help me with my CV and job search, but she also introduced me to using various platforms for obtaining IT courses, ensuring that I was well-prepared for my future. We delved into different options for CV layout, crafting covering letters, preparing for interviews, and even shared personal stories about our beloved dogs. Jane’s genuine interest in my future and her receptiveness made her not only a great career advisor but also a wonderful person.

My journey from unemployment to securing a promising job has been transformative. I am now looking forward to a brighter future, thanks to the support, guidance, and opportunities provided by the National Careers Service.
