I contacted the National Careers Service when I felt lost and uncertain about the next steps in my career journey after losing my job as a picker-packer. I discussed my situation with my careers adviser who listened and outlined the various services that they offered, focusing on skills development and training opportunities.
Together, we revamped my CV, using their guidance on how to structure it professionally and how to highlight my skills and experiences effectively. We also discussed how to navigate the competitive job market and ways to tailor my applications, so they stand out to potential employers. Finally, my adviser conducted mock interviews with me, helping to build confidence and refine my interview skills.
Thanks to the support of my adviser, I was able to secure an interview for a position at Gatwick Airport. As I have previous experience working in the airport environment, I was excited at the prospect of being able to continue working in a familiar field. I felt well-prepared and confident going into the interview, which was down to the mock interviews conducted by my adviser.
I aced the interview and was offered the position, which has had a profound impact on my confidence and outlook. I now feel more empowered and optimistic about my future career prospects, and with the help of the National Careers Service, I am confident that I can achieve success in all my professional endeavours.
